Temperature is a creativity dial. Near the low end, close to zero, the model plays it safe — it always reaches for the single most likely next word. Focused, repeatable, a little robotic.
Turn it up and the model starts taking chances, reaching for less obvious words. More creative, more surprising — and past a point, more likely to go off the rails.
So for facts and for code, you keep it low and boring. For brainstorming and storytelling, you crank it up and let it wander.
